5 Skills Mastery Course
Take Your Skills Further. Challenge Yourself. Build Confidence.
At Everyday Bushcraft, our 5 Skills Mastery Course takes participants beyond the foundations of our popular 1 Day – 5 Skills experience and into the next stage of their resilience journey.
This immersive overnight bushcraft experience is designed for those who have learned the basics and are ready to put their knowledge into practice in a real outdoor environment.
It's one thing to learn how to build a shelter, light a fire, or purify water. It's another to rely on those skills when the sun goes down, the temperature drops, and the comfort of home is no longer an option.
The 5 Skills Mastery Course is about turning knowledge into capability, capability into confidence, and confidence into resilience.
Taking the 5 Skills to the Next Level
Throughout the course, participants revisit and develop the five essential bushcraft skills, applying them in practical scenarios that encourage independence, resourcefulness, and creative problem-solving.
1. Self-Aid – Taking Responsibility for Yourself and Others. Develop your ability to recognise risks, manage discomfort, respond to challenges, and care for yourself and those around you. Learn that resilience begins with staying calm, thinking clearly, and taking positive action.
2. Knots – Building Confidence Through Proficiency. Move beyond learning individual knots to using them with purpose. Construct shelter systems, secure equipment, and solve practical problems. Discover how preparation, patience, and small deliberate actions create dependable results.
3. Shelter – Creating Safety Through Knowledge and Resourcefulness. Plan, construct, and sleep in your own bushcraft shelter. Consider location, weather, insulation, wind protection, and maintaining body temperature. Experience the satisfaction of creating your own safe space using the skills you've developed.
4. Fire – Developing Focus, Persistence, and Control. Strengthen your fire-lighting techniques, explore alternative methods, and understand effective fire management. Learn how persistence, preparation, and adapting your approach can turn frustration into achievement.
5. Water – Finding Solutions Through Knowledge and Adaptability. Practise collecting, clarifying, and making water safe to drink using appropriate techniques and equipment. Understand how planning, observation, and resourcefulness help you overcome challenges when resources are limited.
Each skill is reinforced through hands-on activities, practical challenges, and opportunities to reflect on what worked, what didn't, and what you might do differently next time.
The Overnight Experience – Where Learning Becomes Living
One of the most rewarding elements of the 5 Skills Mastery Course is the opportunity to spend a night in a shelter you've constructed yourself.
Participants learn how to prepare a sleeping environment, manage insulation and moisture, protect themselves from the elements, and remain comfortable in an unfamiliar setting.
As daylight fades, the experience moves beyond simply practising skills.
You'll discover what it means to trust your preparation, adapt to changing conditions, and become comfortable with being a little uncomfortable.
For participants who aren't quite ready to sleep beneath a tarp, a tent option provides an opportunity to participate while gradually developing confidence.
This isn't about making life unnecessarily difficult. It's about discovering just how capable you already are.
More Than Bushcraft – Building Resilience for Everyday Life
At Everyday Bushcraft, we believe the greatest lessons often come from the challenges we choose to face.
The 5 Skills Mastery Course encourages participants to:
-
Step beyond their comfort zones in a safe and supportive environment.
-
Develop independence, resourcefulness, and self-reliance.
-
Practise patience, persistence, and creative problem-solving.
-
Strengthen situational awareness and decision-making.
-
Build confidence through real achievements.
-
Learn to manage uncertainty, discomfort, and changing circumstances.
-
Reflect on their experiences and recognise their personal growth.
We encourage participants to recognise their achievements, however small, and to keep stacking wins.
Every successful knot, every improvement to a shelter, every fire successfully lit, and every problem overcome becomes another piece of evidence that you're capable of more than you might have believed.
It's what we call The Everyday Way.
Learning Together – Building Stronger Connections
The course is particularly rewarding for parents and children who have previously completed our introductory program together.
Working side by side, participants share responsibilities, make decisions, solve problems, and support one another through unfamiliar experiences.
Parents discover new capabilities in their children, while young people develop confidence through genuine responsibility and achievement.
These shared experiences create memories, strengthen relationships, and develop mutual trust.
Sometimes the most powerful moment isn't completing a challenge yourself — it's watching someone you care about realise they can do something they previously thought impossible.
Location
The 5 Skills Mastery Course is held at Clifford Park Activity Centre, Wonga Park, Victoria, and may also be offered at other suitable natural settings.

Your Next Step in the Everyday Way
The 1 Day – 5 Skills Course introduces you to the foundations.
The 5 Skills Mastery Course gives you the opportunity to put those foundations to work.
You'll arrive with knowledge, spend time developing your skills, face new challenges, and leave with something far more valuable than another outdoor experience.
You'll leave with greater confidence in yourself, a stronger connection to the natural world, and the knowledge that you're capable of meeting challenges with calmness, clarity, and purpose.
Because mastery isn't about getting everything right the first time.
It's about practising, learning from mistakes, adapting, and continually improving.
At Everyday Bushcraft, we believe:
Practice makes proficient.
There's always one more thing you can do.
And the skills you develop in the bush become the strengths you carry into everyday life.
